My career in punting….by Desperate Dan
My career in punting has really blossomed over the past 5 years. If I could put a finger on it I’d say it was around the time that betting became accessible on mobile phones. I remember watching my mate winning a 6 bet all up which resulted in a $35k payout. We sang “Horses” all night down at the Crown until the wee hours of the morning! I woke up deciding I wanted a piece of that action… and Ive been chasing that dragon ever since!
I’ve got accounts with all the bookies because I love the sign up offers, and let me say if you aren’t afraid to beg then you can often get a deposit match offer – more on those things at another time.
I like to think that Saturday is my main day of focus however during the Melbourne Spring Carnival there is so many of ‘mine’ (a horse/dog/trotter that I’ve lost on before) going around that it may spread to include Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Otherwise I’m strictly Saturdays, unless of course I’ve got a good tip for a shortie that I’ve read about on the internet or from the milkbar man (but more about him later too). Thinking about it now, it seems to be quite often.
It makes me so angry when a hot tip gets up and I’ve decided to sit it out or I’m broke (but you can always get credit betting – more about that later as well). My motto is the shorter the odds the more you put on!
As every good punter does I’ve got a seperate account for my betting that I keep from the missus. She gives me an allowance of $100 per week. Sometimes I can pinch a few bucks from my lunch money if I need. We’ve only got the one tv at home so most of my cheering is done discreetly while streaming on the mobile.
